Lead Parapet Gutters

Parapet gutters are often the one element of a period house that can be difficult to access for maintenance.

Lack of maintenance can lead to water ingress, which is sometimes misdiagnosed as damp penetrating the parapet wall.

Provision for maintenance, such as the installation of a rooflight for access, is an idea we promote when renewing gutters to avoid future problems.

The lead parapet gutter renewal (right) included internal wall cladding and lead capping to prevent water penetration into brickwork

T-Prenne lead parapet gutter

This project involved the renewal of lead parapet guttering using a "T-Prenne" joint system which removes the need for steps in the gutter. We only recommend this joint system when we feel there is no other alternative andprefer to use traditional methods such as steps based upon the outlook that this system has performed for hundreds of years without fault!

This lead cladding and capping was used to protect a timber parapet from further decay when it was overhauled and repainted.
